Current Volunteer Opportunities are available now at Inspire Magazine. High school students please note, in addition to gaining valuable experience and having your work published, you can accumulate volunteer service hours by working for Inspire.  Additionally, your work here can be used on a future resume and we are happy to provide references when required.  Interested? Youth Editor

February - June 2020, with possibility to extend term.

Our ideal candidate will be:
- 20 or younger and either live, or have a strong connection with, Northumberland County. 

- Passionate about advocating for youth and social justice issues.  

- Strong writing and communications skills.
- Good understanding and working knowledge of relevant social media platforms.

 

Our Youth Editor will have the following responsibilities:
- Working with our team to come up with relevant topics and story ideas.
- Writing a short (500 words or less) "Hot Topic" per issue, with the opportunity to expand the role: e.g.  conducing interviews, short videos, etc.
- Be available occasionally for team meetings (either in person and/or electronically).

You will also be given the opportunity and encouraged to bring fresh ideas to the magazine and influence the content of Inspire. We need your voice!

Social Media Influencer

Working together with our Editor and/or Social Media Manager, you'll be spreading the word about Inspire on our social feeds, helping to  grow a vibrant online community of followers while amplifying our campaign messaging through social media.

Our ideal candidate will be:

- Under 20 and either live, or have a strong connection with, Northumberland County.
- Passionate about advocating for youth and social justice issues. 
- Have a strong following/presence on one or more social media platforms.


Responsibilities include:
- Promoting Inspire 5-7 times per week on your social feeds in a positive way.
- Help build a community of youth followers and drive traffic to our website.
- Interacting in a positive way with Inspire followers online.

- Be available occasionally for team meetings (either in person and/or electronically).

Writing Assignments

Currently looking for stories on the following topics:  LGBTQ2S+ issues; Substance abuse;  Dating: Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships; Bullying; Finance Tips for Youth.  What are issues are you passionate about? Got a great story idea? Let us know, we'll consider it!

Photojournalism

Freelance photographers needed! we  are constantly on the lookout for strong images to accompany our feature stories and hot topics. You'll receive a photo credit with each image used and have a chance to be included in our annual print version of Inspire, and anthology which will feature the best stories and work from our first year.
